Ingredients:
- 4 cups all-purpose flour
- 2 1/4 teaspoons active dry yeast
- 1 1/2 cups warm water
- 1 tablespoon sugar
- 1 1/2 teaspoons salt
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- 1/4 cup baking soda
- 2 cups warm water
- 4 cloves garlic, minced
- 1/4 cup butter, melted
- Salt, for sprinkling
- Fresh parsley, chopped optional, for garnish
Instructions:
Warm water and sugar should be mixed in a bowl
Place the yeast on top of the water and wait five minutes
The yeast will foam up
Put the flour and salt in a large bowl and mix them together
Add the yeast mix and olive oil
Mix until you get a dough
For about 5 minutes, knead the dough on a floured surface until it gets smooth and springy
To make the dough double in size, put it in a bowl that has been greased and cover it with a damp cloth
Let it rise for about an hour
Warm your oven up to 425F 220C and put parchment paper on a baking sheet
Mix baking soda and 2 cups of warm water together in a shallow dish until the baking soda is gone
Cut the dough into 8 equal pieces, and then roll each piece into a rope
Mix the baking soda with water and roll the ropes into bagel shapes
Once the baking sheet is ready, put the bagels on it
Bake for about 15 minutes, or until the bagels turn golden brown
While the bagels are baking, melt the butter and cook the minced garlic until it smells good
As soon as the bagels come out of the oven, brush them with the garlic butter mix and salt them
You can add chopped fresh parsley as a garnish if you want to
Wait a minute or two before serving the bagels
Have fun with your homemade bagels with garlic
